Le Mazot – Bern

After so much Italian and burgers, we figured some traditional Swiss food was in order. However, the diversity of Switzerland makes this a little difficult. Le Mazot, in Barenplatz, does offer some traditional Swiss food, along with the staples such as burgers and such.

The meal in question this time is Rösti: A mixture of potatoes and other ingredients served in a hot cast iron pan. It’s reminiscent of a breakfast skillet, with potato on the bottom. In fact, they are traditionally a breakfast food, so it seemed perfectly natural to roll in at 5:30pm and have an early dinner.

Le Mazot reminds me of an old sea bar: all wood and a little dark. The Rösti menu is varied, including blue cheese, bacon, egg and salmon varieties, among others. Gemma opted for bacon and egg, while I went for a ‘sportsman’: bacon, egg, and cheese. And boy, was it cheesy.

This is a hearty meal. If you’re looking for something to keep you warm from the winter chill, then this will do the trick.
