Big Daddy Burger

Big Daddy + extras

Burgers are pretty fantastic, but there seems that I’m noticing a new burger joint popping up quite regularly. That said, Big Daddy has been on my list for a while, popping up across from one of my personal faves – MooBurger. Right on King St, Newtown, Can it live up to my burger dreams?

The place is definitely going for the 50’s vibe – red & white booths, classic rock, and stolen street signs and posters plucked right out of the decade. The waitress handed us a menu, told us to sit anywhere, and come to the bar once we were ready.

The menu is simple, and a little different. The ‘Big Daddy’ is simply two patties, cheese and sauce. You then order extra toppings. The usual staples (including beetroot, this is Australia) are there, and then get more full on, such as onion rings, are there to be had. The burger itself is $10, and toppings range from 80c to $2 depending on the fun factor. There’s also hot dogs and cheesy fries, and milkshakes.

I went with a Big Daddy with added lettuce, tomato and onion, curly fries on the side and soft drink, while Gemma went for the Bacon Swiss and Mushroom (exactly as the name implies) and a Malteser shake. The shake arrived first (of course) and will fulfill your Malteser dreams. The burgers are good, fatty, and classic American. Highly recommend adding to your rotation.
