The Point

Another highlight of my recent trip was the visit to The Point restaurant. As the name suggests, it is located at the very end of the marina on Soldiers Point Road at Port Stephens. Not a bad view…

At first we had to sit at a cocktail table to wait for the sun to move on from our seat. This was an issue for me and my partner as we both have fair skin and would have completely fried sitting in the sunny spot they allocated us. This desire to not burn and squint throughout the entire dinner was also further backed up by several other couples who were sat at that seat and also asked for a relocation. We were eventually moved to a seat inside which still had a great view, but was more shielded from the hot summer sun. So we could enjoy our meal more fully.

The Food

Entrée: Grilled scallops and pork belly with a red wine jus.

A nice, light starter that gave us a small taste and left plenty of room for dessert.

Main: Crispy skinned barramundi with grilled vegetables and chat potatoes.

The fish was delicious and I’m not usually one to celebrate vegetables, but after days of nothing but food with chips or pizza, the vegetables were very welcome and very well cooked. Delicious meal.

Dessert: Tasting selection for 2. This included a choc fudge brownie with choc sauce, deconstructed berry cheesecake and a crème Brule panna cotta.

My partner and I each took our favourites from this dish. Mine was obviously the brownie and he preferred the panna cotta – go figure 🙂

In amongst all of this, there was of course copious amounts of alcohol. But with the weather so warm, I found my self looking at the mocktail menu for something fancy that I could drink and wouldn’t dry me out.

I was very pleasantly surprised by their extensive choices. I ended up going for a lime and pineapple spritz, which was beautifully presented and very refreshing. Highly recommend the mocktail menu.

Overall: A great view and nice menu. If you can get in then great, but I wouldn’t line up for it.

Food: 4 stars. Not amazing, but not bad either

Customer service: 3.5 stars. Whilst attentive, they continued to stubbornly try to sit people in the boiling hot seat with no regard for the guests’ ability to enjoy the meal in those seats. Just a bit lacking on common sense and care.
