Grandma’s Kitchen

When I was travelling around Europe and feeling way out of my depth, the quickest method of bringing me comfort was food. Food was known and safe and there was a good chance that the people serving you would speak English. Amongst my favourite comfort foods is Indian.

Given the wet weather weekend we are all enduring, this weeks’ post will be Indian food delivered to my home. Not as aesthetically pleasing as eating in a restaurant (yes, I know!), but if you pick the right restaurant, the food is just as delicious and hot as if you were there….and you don’t have to chase a waiter each time you want your drink refilled 🙂

Last night’s Indian restaurant of choice was Grandma’s Kitchen in Newtown.

For me, it’s all about the curries, naan bread and roti. But a little tip, in ordering delivery from this restaurant….don’t bother trying to order roti. They sell out of it so fast, that they often end up supplementing your order with naan bread instead just to get your order to you on time. So just stick with the naan bread, it’s delicious anyway and comes in a variety of flavours.

Last night we ordered Daal Math Rani (Black lentils cooked slowly overnight on tandoor, flavoured with fenugreek and butter), Lamb Rogan Josh (needs no explanation) and Chicken Tikka Masala (a classic order). Also ordered 2 plain naan and 2 cheesy naan breads.

Another lesson we learned last night, is that we were not the only people seeking this particular comfort food on a wet Friday night. So the wait time was approximately 1.5hrs 🙁

But well worth the wait. The lamb fell apart in my mouth, the Daal Math Rani was fragrant and smooth and the Tikka Masala was pure comfort.

And the best part….they provide you with so much, that there is plenty for lunch the next day.
